Originally created in 1994 as a component of the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) Office of Science and Technology, the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) system serves as an "honest broker" offering support, research findings, and technological expertise to help State and local law enforcement, corrections, and other criminal justice personnel perform their duties more safely and efficiently.

The Office of Justice Programs' National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research and development agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. NLECTC is a program of NIJ's Office of Science and Technology.
